Atsushi Ikegami
Senior Research Fellow
Atsushi Ikegami is a Senior Research Fellow at the National Security Institute of Fujitsu Defense & National Security and a Senior Fellow at the Japan Defense Technology Foundation (DTF). His research focuses on defense industrial policy, R&D strategy, and the implications of emerging technologies—particularly AI and autonomous weapons—for future military operations and arms control. He previously headed the Defense & Geopolitical Research Unit at the Fujitsu Research Institute, where he conducted policy research for Japanese ministries on operational concepts, defense industrial policy, and export control. His work has appeared in a range of publications, including Defense Technology Journal, Newsweek Japan, and Sankei Shimbun, and he has delivered invited remarks at DSEI Japan and other defense forums. He has engaged with the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) on AI policy, including through its Roundtable for AI, Security and Ethics. He holds an MPA from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a BA in Economics from Keio University. He also served as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI USA) during 2025–2026.
