About the customer

An Estonian electronics manufacturing company specializing in complex production processes, recently transitioned to independent operations following a change in ownership, establishing its own IT and ERP capabilities.

A sudden need for independence

When an Estonian electronics manufacturer separated from its parent company, it faced an urgent need to establish an independent ERP environment. Its SAP system had been fully operated and controlled by headquarters, leaving the local team without access, architectural insight, or ownership. The company needed to stand up a fully functioning system in Estonia within an extremely tight timeframe—without disrupting production.

“We suddenly had to take over something we had never fully seen or controlled,” recalls the SAP Project Manager at Estonian electronics manufacturer. “At the same time, the system is so critical that even a short interruption would have stopped production entirely.”

The complexity was amplified by the sheer volume of product and operational data, differences in platform architecture between headquarters and the Estonian entity, and limited internal IT capacity. With just a one-week migration window during a planned factory shutdown, the risks of data loss, operational failure, or prolonged downtime were significant.

Bringing clarity to complexity

To navigate this high-risk transformation, the company turned to Fujitsu for its international SAP expertise and collaborative approach. From the earliest discussions, Fujitsu engaged experienced SAP architects from across its European network to assess the situation and define a viable migration strategy—even before contractual agreements were in place.

Recognizing that a simple system copy was not feasible due to architectural differences, Fujitsu designed a tailored migration approach. The team worked closely with both the customer’s newly established IT function and the former headquarters to map, extract, and rebuild the ERP environment on a new platform hosted in Estonia.

“The most difficult part was understanding what exactly needed to be transferred and how the system was structured,” says the SAP Project Manager. “Fujitsu brought the expertise to decode that complexity and guide us step by step.”

The migration was executed in phases, starting with database separation and system deployment on a new infrastructure. Throughout the process, Fujitsu’s teams in Estonia and Portugal collaborated seamlessly with the customer, adapting to evolving requirements and ensuring transparency at every stage.

A seamless transition with lasting value

The new SAP system went live successfully in summer 2025—within the planned one-week window and without disrupting production. This was followed by an intensive hyper-care phase, during which Fujitsu provided 24/7 support to ensure system stability and rapid issue resolution.

“The users didn’t notice anything had changed—that’s the best possible outcome,” says the SAP Project Manager. “Considering all factors, the result is fantastic. Everything was completed on time and within the planned effort.”

Today, the company operates a fully independent and clearly structured ERP environment, enabling better control over its processes, data, and business decisions. The simplified architecture and locally managed integrations provide a stable foundation for ongoing operations and future innovation.

With continued Fujitsu support, the organization is now preparing for its next transformation step: a transition to SAP public cloud, ensuring long-term scalability, standardization, and digital agility.
