Transformation doesn't progress by merely writing a “prescription”

“Japanese companies are quick to diagnose problems and create ‘prescriptions’—but few actually take the medicine,” remarks Shunsuke Onishi, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Fujitsu. He describes how many digital transformation (DX) efforts end at proof-of-concept (PoC), and structural reforms fail to take root across organizations. To overcome these barriers and build companies that not only transform but continue transforming, Fujitsu launched Uvance Wayfinders, a new global consulting initiative. From the outset, Wayfinders has operated under a global framework—bringing together leaders from inside and outside Fujitsu to create a consulting model that supports clients from strategy through execution.

Consulting that combines technology and business — Accompanying clients through implementation

According to Onishi, Wayfinders was created to fill a critical gap: despite Fujitsu’s comprehensive value chain—from research and development to system operations—the company lacked a team dedicated to translating technology into business impact and accompanying clients through actual implementation.

The decision to house this capability within Fujitsu’s core organization rather than a subsidiary stemmed from experience. Through internal initiatives such as Fujitsu Transformation (Fujitra), the company had learned that its own transformation journey could serve as a powerful source of insight for helping clients realize change.

In Japan’s IT industry, companies have long tended to delegate large-scale system implementations entirely to vendors, while vendors, seeking to hedge risk, often limited their scope of responsibility. The result was many projects that failed to deliver meaningful business outcomes—despite large investments.

“Fujitsu was no exception,” Onishi admits. “We needed to bridge the gap between engineers’ technical perspectives and executives’ management perspectives.”

From 2019, he began a fundamental reform focused on uncovering and cultivating internal talent—people capable of understanding management challenges and walking alongside clients through implementation. This initiative led to the creation of Fujitsu Uvance, a business framework for co-creating a sustainable future. Wayfinders now stands as the final piece of this transformation: a consulting organization that unites technology and business execution to deliver continuous change.

To accelerate the next phase, Fujitsu also brought in external leaders capable of acting as transformation navigators—among them Shin Shuda, who joined the company in March 2025.

Shunsuke Onishi—the visionary behind Wayfinders—has been at the forefront of Fujitsu’s transformation. After holding leadership roles at global consulting firms and major corporations, he joined Fujitsu in 2019. He restructured the company’s customer-facing organization into a cross-functional, customer-centric model and led reforms in talent development, decision-making, and front-line execution.

“To unleash Fujitsu’s potential and co-create the future with clients, we must make full use of our internal talent while integrating exceptional external leaders,” says Onishi. “Wayfinders is where Fujitsu’s transformation experience becomes real client value.”

In March 2025, Shin Shuda joined as Global CEO & Senior Managing Partner, Uvance Wayfinders. A Brown University engineering graduate, Shuda brings more than 20 years of experience leading enterprise-wide transformation projects across Japan, North America, and Australia, including senior roles at global consulting firms and as Chief Marketing Officer at UNIQLO USA.

“Fujitsu today is vastly different from the image I once had—it feels like discovering a whole new organization,” Shuda reflects. “A Japanese company boldly transforming its business portfolio is rare. I was drawn to Fujitsu’s integrity and ambition.”

The two leaders bring complementary expertise—Onishi with hands-on experience driving transformation from within Fujitsu, and Shuda with global-scale transformation know-how. Together, they are shaping a Japan-born, globally benchmarked consulting model.

Shuda notes that one of Wayfinders’ key strengths in the market is its diversity of talent. Unlike traditional consulting teams, Wayfinders includes not only former consulting-firm partners but also university professors specializing in AI, data scientists, and cybersecurity experts. Onishi asserts, “We don’t intend to follow classical consulting models. Our aim is to support business and organizational transformation through industry-specific data models and cutting-edge AI and technologies.”

Shuda sees this moment as an opportunity rather than a challenge:
“It’s not easy for established consulting firms to change their traditional ways of working—but as a new entrant, we can. That’s exactly why we intend to take bold steps forward.”

Graduated from Hitotsubashi University, Faculty of Economics, in 1984, and began his career at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). He subsequently held key positions at NTT DATA and global consulting firms.
In 2013, he became President & CEO of NTT DATA Global Solutions, and in 2017, Vice President and Japan Country Head at Infosys.
He joined Fujitsu in 2019, and from April 2023 served as CRO and Head of the Global Customer Success Business Group.
As CRO, he has led the enhancement of governance across Fujitsu’s customer-facing organizations and driven business growth globally.
Appointed Deputy CEO in April 2025, he currently oversees the company’s global consulting and customer success initiatives.

At Accenture’s North America offices, he focused on corporate and business transformation, operational efficiency, and digital transformation initiatives, while also serving as a practice leader in multiple domains.
In addition to his consulting experience, he served as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of UNIQLO USA, where he contributed to the brand’s turnaround and the establishment of a growth foundation in Western markets.
Leveraging his extensive experience in both Japan and North America, he supports enterprise growth and transformation on a global scale.
He joined Fujitsu in March 2025 to lead the global business expansion and organizational transformation of Uvance Wayfinders.
